Hello! :)

I would like to intodruce myself. Please let me know if I'm mistaken. :)
I'm a pupil, I'm 15 years old and I'm female. I "know" Harry and Caitlin. ;)
My hobbies are music, movies, languages, meeting friends and so on.
What about you? Would you like to intodruce yourself?

Best,
fairy :)

Hi Caitlin! :)

Thanks for the compliment :) I like your name, too. It's an unusual and exotic name. :)
Chinese? Interesting ;) There are so many characters, aren't there? In my opinion it's a quite difficult language...

Best,

Hi fairy,

oh yes, Chinese IS a difficult language, I wish I'd speak it as well as you speak English :)

Hi Caitlin! :)

How long have you been learning Chinese?
Your English is perfect! It will be difficult to manage the same with Chinese ;)

Best,
fairy :)

Caitlin
13.02.2005, 11:44
well, I started almost ten years ago but haven't been "learning" ever since ;) ... and, thanks, but I'm afraid that my English is far from perfect :o

Hi Caitlin! :)

Well, I don't know how to say it, but I'm sure, that your English is very very very very good :) You know so many expressions and it's agreeable to read your texts :) and so on... I could enumerate so many great things ;) and well, I'm mistaken, because there's a quotation: "Es gibt keine perfekten Menschen auf dieser Welt, nur perfekte Absichten!"
I've been learning French for 3 years and Spanish for half a year...

Best,
fairy

edit: I "edited" my mistake...

Caitlin
13.02.2005, 13:07
thanks again, dear fairy :D but then, you know, I really AM old ;) and have had plenty of time to learn English

whereas you, being still so young, besides speaking English well, have also been learning French for three years and Spanish for half a year, I'm quite impressed! You seem to be a very hard-working young lady :)

Hi Caitlin :)

Thanks. Well, hum... It's my dream to move to England if I get my German school-leaving examination and university entrance qualification. ;) And languages are so important! If you learn a language it's like getting a new life ;)
Look at Germany! Look at all the unemployed people... I think, there's just a minimal chance to get a job... it's better to go abroad :) And I'm working to manage this... sometime...

Best,
fairy

Caitlin

Hi fairy :)

I agree! Learning a foreign language is like one big exciting adventure or, as you put it, like getting a new life :D

I hope that your dream will come true!!! Do you know this page?: http://www.ukstudy.com/uks-english/study-in-england.asp

I used to live and work in England for a year and a half when I was young and I liked it a lot. I sometimes still wish that I could have stayed on ;)

It might be interesting for you, because you used to live in England ;)
You're living in Germany, aren't you? Why don't you move back to England? I'd do it :)

Hello fairy,

quite honestly I'm surprised because I don't "know" you, so where do you "know" me from?

There's not much to say about myself: I'm 25 years old and I'm male as you already suspected because of my (user)name probably. Do I have any hobby? I don't think so, not really.

Best wishes

Harry

PS: @fairy, I wish you good luck for your math test.

@everyone, feel free to correct the mistakes I did.

Hey fairy,

Now, I know who you are :) as you already know. ;)

It's nice to see you on this board. I hope you will have a good time here. :)

I'm glad to hear that your math test was quite good. :) Are you good at school in general? You don't have to answer this if you don't want to.

Hmm, I don't really know and maybe I'm wrong but you asked me "Do you know who am I?" I still have some problems with the word order but shouldn't it be: "Do you know who I am?"?

Best wishes and still a nice evening to everyone who's reading this.

Hi fairy,

Harry is right, it should be "Do you know who I am?" :)

and here's a nice little story which I just found on: http://www.humorcube.com/html/Do-You-Know-Who-I-Am.html

It was the final examination for an introductory Biology course at the local university. Like many such freshman courses, it was designed to weed out new students, having over 500 students in the class!

The examination was two hours long, and exam booklets were provided. The professor was very strict and told the class that any exam that was not on his desk in exactly two hours would not be accepted and the student would fail. Half of an hour into the exam, a student came rushing in and asked the professor for an exam booklet.

"You're not going to have time to finish this," the professor stated sarcastically as he handed the student a booklet.

"Yes I will," replied the student. He then took a seat and began writing. After two hours, the professor called for the exams, and the students filed up and handed them in. All except the late student, who continued writing. An hour later, the last student came up to the professor who was sitting at his desk preparing for his next class. He attempted to put his exam on the stack of exam booklets already there.

"No you don't, I'm not going to accept that. It's late."

The student looked incredulous and angry.

"Do you know who I am?"

"No, as a matter of fact I don't," replied the professor with an air of sarcasm in his voice.

"Do you know who I am?" the student asked again in a louder voice.

"No, and I don't care." replied the professor with an air of superiority.

"Good," replied the student, who quickly lifted the stack of completed exams, stuffed his in the middle, and walked out of the room.

:D

Hello fairy,

That's good when you're good at (or "in"?) school. I wasn't good at school. Do you want to do your school-leaving exam or do you want to leave school after 10th grade?

What do you want to be when you school finished?

If these questions are too personal for you to post the answer on the forum then you don't have to answer.

Do you know what I wonder about? Why do you sometimes make your smilies in that way (-: and not in that :-)? You're the first one I see who makes it in that way.

@Caitlin Thanks for your help with the question and I'm a little happy that I was right. :)

in der Schule sein = to be at/in school

UK I was at school with (= I went to the same school at the same time as) Luke's brother.
Is Emily in school today or is she still ill?
http://dictionary.cambridge.org/define.asp?key=70349&dict=CALD

gut sein in der Schule = to be good in school or (even more popular) to do good in school

it's not difficult for me

what do you want to do after you finish/leave school?

;)

Hello Caitlin,

At first thanks for your explantion because of this in/at school.

I have a question: You wrote my sentence: "What do you want to be after school?" in that way: "What do you want to do after you finish/leave school?"

I wanted to ask: Was willst du werden nachdem du mit der Schule fertig bist? and in my collins dictionary is written:

was willst du einmal werden? = what do you want to be when you grow up?

Wasn't it right just to change this sentence?

Best wishes

Harry

Caitlin

Hallo Harry,

"What kind of job do you want to do after you leave school?"
"What career do you plan to follow/pursue after you leave school?"
"What profession are you going to choose after you leave school?"
"Are you going to university after you leave school? - What are you going to major in?"

:)

Hi Harry! :)

At first the smilies: This one ( (-: ) means that I'm left-handed and I like it ;)

That's good when you're good at (or "in"?) school. I wasn't good at school. Do you want to do your school-leaving exam or do you want to leave school after 10th grade?
I want to get my high school degree and then, well I don't know what I'm going to go then ;) Maybe I'll study or I'll go to England (-:

What do you want to be when you school finished?
Some times I wanted to be an actress, I know it's innocent, but it was my dream... well, and now... I'm ot sure about it ;)
What about you? What's your job?

I'm not, just thought that most software didn't take the left-handed users into consideration, you might have to deal with lots of trivial things when using computer. It's not like writing, you can place your notepad, pen and reference books at anywhere you want. :D

Why do you write it was your dream? Dreams are important, but this is just my opinion.

I haven't found any word for what I am. It is something between an office junior, an office worker and an office administrator. The German word is "Bürokraft or Bürofachkraft" both of these words are right.

Best wishes and a nice evening to everyone who is reading this.

Yes, you're right... Is there a "mouse" (is that the word?) for lefties? I have never learned to use a mouse for left-handed persons and I do all the things at the computer with the right hand ;) It was a little rearrengement, but now, after all, it's ok... I don't know the percentage, I guess it's rather low, less than 1%? ;)
My younger sister is left-handed, well, might be "was", my father forced her to use right hand since her childhood, it's like a long time training. Interestingly, she still uses left hand unconsciously sometimes. She seems to be able to write with both hands quite comfortably.

I think and hope you will find the right one to live with and who will put you into good humor. :)

Hmm, what do I do? Let me think, well I do compare offers, write letters and so on. I created different tables with excel within the last 2 or 3 weeks. You know for example a vacation calendar or a table where people can fill in the hours they worked. I know it sounds not especially exciting and not really complicated but you have to work with a lot of formulas which can be really long partly. You need them with it the program can automatically calculate chuch-holidays. You know that are holidays which every year on another day. It's a little complicated, but I like it. :) I can't tell you all of the formulas I used because I don't know all of them anymore. When I see the table again I would know what I would have to do. ;)

If you have any questions more feel free and ask. I don't have one at present anymore.

Hello fairy, Caitlin, and hi hurricane_sh ;)

@fairy: Well, actually it isn't that complicated and actually, I think, it isn't really the work for a Bürofachkraft to create such tables but I like it because it is something special, do you understand? It isn't anything what everyone can do and you also have to be interested in such things otherwise you will turn crazy I think. ;) It isn't just that you're typing in formulas you also have to know how they work, sometimes you have to write a lot of formulas in one cell, too, you know with brackets. When I'm at work on Monday I will copy one of them and show you. It isn't that easy to explain. ;)

Hi fairy,

that's easy :) at the bottom of your screen on the taskbar (Taskleiste) you can see the symbol "DE" (Deutsch). If you click on it, a small window is shown in which you find "EN - Englisch (USA)". Now, if you click on that, the keyboard automatically changes to the American-style keyboard. Somewhere, there's the option to see the layout of this keyboard but I can't find this option at the moment :o

If you want to have a look at the layout, you can do so here: http://www.classykeyboards.com/datacal/us-international-layout.htm

Don't you have this symbol just when you use WIN XP? And then you also don't see it in any case. For example me I don't see this symbol because I just use one language and because of that I haven't installed another one.

you're right! Thanks for pointing this out to me!

Ok, here's another way how to do it:

"Start" - "Einstellungen" - "Systemsteuerung" - "Ländereinstellungen/Regions- und Spachoptionen" - "Sprachen" - "Details" - "Englisch (USA)"

hope this isn't too confusing :D

Hello and Good morning :)

I'm sorry, my PC is "ill" ;)
I think it's too old.

Well, it's quite easy, I'll describe you my way :)
"Star" --> "Einstellung" ---> "Systemsteuerung" --> "Tastatur" and then "Sprache"

I can also use a British keyboard :) Caitlin, have you something like that (http://www.classykeyboards.com/datacal/us-international-layout.htm) for a British keyboard?

I thank you very much ;) you two :)
If I want to switch from the German keyboard to the Amercian keyboard I've to do this: "STRG+Umschalt" and then "101" and ready :-))

I'm sorry, I'm very tired and therefore I'll stop now ;)

Hello fairy, Caitlin and hurrican_ch,

@ fairy, I'm sorry I couldn't post anything yesterday. Actually I wanted to show you two pictures but they're too big to post them.

But I will nevertheless show you two formulas. I hope I do write them without any mistake.

first one: =(+ZÄHLENWENN(A7:A38;WOCHENTAG(2))+ZÄHLENWENN(A7:A 38;WOCHENTAG(3))+ZÄHLENWENN(A7:A38;WOCHENTAG(4))+Z ÄHLENWENN(A7:A38;WOCHENTAG(5))+ZÄHLENWENN(A7:A38;W OCHENTAG(6)))-(ZÄHLENWENN(B7:B37;$N$2-2)+ZÄHLENWENN(B7:B37;$N$2+1)+ZÄHLENWENN(B7:B37;$N$ 2+39)+ZÄHLENWENN(B7:B37;$N$2+50))-ZÄHLENWENN(M7:M37;1)

This formula does calculate the days of work per month. The first part (this one with "ZÄHLENWENN(A7:A38;WOCHENTAG(2))" it's going to count all days when it is a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. The second part does subtract all holidays which are governed by Easter Sunday (That's another formula which is written in the cell "N2" in my table.) The last part so ZÄHLENWENN(M7:M37;1) does count all number 1 which are in (Spalte (I don't know the word in English) "M". There's another formula which is checking whether there's a holiday like the 1st of January, 1st of May and so on. You know these last two parts are important because nobody wants to go at work on a holiday. ;)

Second one: =WENN(UND(G9>0;ODER(D9="U";E9="U"));G9;WENN(ODER(D9="";E9="";D9="K";E9="K";D9="A";E9="A";"";WENN(UND(E9>=(751/1440);ODER(A9=WOCHENTAG(2);A9=WOCHENTAG(5)));F9+G9 )-(30/1440);F9+G9)))

The main work of this formula is to subtract half an hour when it is or when it is after 12:31 p. m. except Fridays. This 751 = 12:31 p. m. and this 1440 is 1 day, so 24 hours.

Do you have understood my explaination?

Well, these are just 2 formulas but I think you can imagine now how it works.

If you have a question then ask me and I will try to explain it once more or maybe also in another way.

Best wishes

Harry

Hello to everyone,

well, what shall I say? I'm surprised and I also feel a little proud. May I be proud of myself?

I also have to admit that it is really complicated when you just know these two forumlas because you can't really see the connections, for example in that cell "A9" there's the day of the week in it which is also a formula. You know there are 12 ("Spalten" Does anyone know the correct name of this word in English?) and in 8 of them is written a formula, + the calculation of working days, + the calculations of Easter Sunday and + the calculation of the Day of prayer and repentance (these two formulas are not by me. I have found them on the Internet don't ask me for the web-site anymore.) And of course the formula which is checking if there's a holiday like the first of January, first of May and so on.

One of them that I found should work without a mistake until the year 8202. But anyhow it just works for me until the year 2021 and this also just with a little trick which I also don't know anymore it was more or less be chance that I have found this trick. A while ago I found a formula which works correct until the year 2078.

@fairy you didn't put me in trouble. I wish you a speedy recovery.

[How long was you there? Where did you live? so I mean in a hotel, at a guest family or something like that.]

I 've been being there for 2 1/2 weeks and I've been staying at a host family (like this year ;)). The English food needs getting used to it ;) ...

Will you do or did you already a language trip this year? It's not really clear for me because you have just written: "like this year".

Well, I think, I don't have another question (now?).

Hi Harry :)

No, I'm going to go to Oxford this year. My teacher was very nice (an old British lady with a cat ;) --- typical British ;) :) ---)
My parent's are paying for my language trip. Yes, it isn't cheap and I do not feeling well, if my parents are paying for it... I don't know why, but I'm feeling "guilty" ;) Well ^^

Best,

Harry
18.03.2005, 15:26
Hello fairy,

When you really feel guilty, have you ever been thinking about to do anything that your parent's don't have to pay all? So I mean that you do something to earn some money like me I delivered papers when I was still in school so I was able to buy something when I wouldn't have done this I wouldn't have been able to buy the things I bought because I didn't get that much pocket money. I just got 9 DM per month and with the paper thing I had about 140 DM per month. So you see it was a lot more. Of course you won't have that much free time anymore but for this you will have money so you would be able to pay for your language trip by yourself at least a part. There are also other jobs which you can do an earn more. I just wrote it as an example.

Best wishes and I wish you a nice weekend.

Hi there :)

No, I don't know "Theo's Reise", who is the author? Is it anyone famous?
Je ne sais pas ;)
Here that's the book: http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/3423128879/302-0968932-5535225
and here
http://www.lernen-heute.de/theos_reise.html
and that's the author:
http://www.beilharz.com/qs/qs-clement.htm

It's a little bit like Sofie's World...I haven't read the whole book (Sofie's World) It's a philosphical book... I've never known that this kind of books could be interesting... I thought "philosophy" argh... no that's not my profession, still it isn't. But I've learned that this kind of literature isn't as boring as I've ever thought :)

Not long to go now until your trip to Oxford, right? I bet you must be really excited.

http://www.mainzelahr.de/smile/liebe/knuddel.gif

Indeed, you're right... it's almost two month... I'm so happy... I could jump in the air everytime I think at it http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/froehlich/a040.gif ... and I'm, of course, pretty excited... :) I make lists of everything that I mustn't forget... I read books (I got one about Cambridge and Oxford to Easter :) http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/3895616710/qid=1115383903/sr=8-2/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i2_xgl/302-0968932-5535225 )
I'm going to go by plane... I've just flown one time... but I like it...

Do you know "About a boy"? Of course, you know, don't you? I'm reading it at the moment... and I've to read another book (for school ) "Schachnovelle" ... I'll read it this evening... it's just 109 pages :) That's quite short, isn't it? :)
nice to see you. :) I'm okay as far, you? Hi Harry :) Nice to see you as well ;) (that's a new phrase I've learned :D "as well" :D Indeed, I knew it, but I've never used it ;)) I'm really happy and I'm fine :)

I don't know "Theo's Reise" either. I know "Gullivers Reisen" Is it maybe a similiar story? http://www.jadukids.de/personen/pers/gulliver/

No, it's really different. I put some links in this post. If you like, you can look at it ;) There's a description about the story. It's about religious and something like that. My godmother gave it to me because she knows that I'm interested in this kind of stuff.

Hi you two,

@fairy: hmm, the book seems to be interesting. Actually I don't believe in God but nevertheless it is interesting to read and to watch about it. I'm open for a lot of things because I think everyone shall believe in what she or he wants to and I think in every story is a little bit truth, too. I have watched "Die Zehn Gebote" more than one time and at present I'm reading a book it's called "Memnoch der Teufel" I really like it. It's about a Vampire who mets the Devil and the Devil is telling his story, what he experienced before there was a hell and the reason why God punished him.

Hi you two,

@fairy: hmm, the book seems to be interesting. Actually I don't believe in God but nevertheless it is interesting to read and to watch about it. I'm open for a lot of things because I think everyone shall believe in what she or he wants to and I think in every story is a little bit truth, too. Well, indeed, I'm baptised, I had my confirmation and I "belive" in God... but I'm looking, I don't know why, for another religion... It's crazy I know, but there are so many "mistakes" in the Christian faith... I do not know if it's right.... ;)
I have watched "Die Zehn Gebote" more than one time There's a little part in the book and it's about this film :) and at present I'm reading a book it's called "Memnoch der Teufel" I really like it. That's great! :) At the moment my friend is reading it, but if she'll finish it, I'll read it. It sounds really good and I'm waiting impatiently to read this book :)
It's about a Vampire who mets the Devil and the Devil is telling his story, what he experienced before there was a hell and the reason why God punished him.
I like vampires and this stuff ;) I know, they don't exist but I think there's something like that and, indeed, although they don't exist they do exist but not in this kind they're showing in books... It's confusing ;)

It's not the same cover but it's the same book
It's about a boy whose parents got a divorce... well, he meet Will who's really cool. He hears the right music and wears the right things and so on. Will is 36. Well, then after a long time, they become "friends"... But I haven't finished the book yet ;)

Did you read those two stories I posted a while ago? If yes, what do you think about them?

Hey fairy and Caitlin :)

@fairy

I'm curious, why do say that we're/I'm great?

Why did you write "believe" in quotes? Aren't you sure whether there's really a God?

No, I don't think it's crazy that you are looking for another religion. What do you mean with mistakes? What's "wrong" with the christian faith? What should comprise "your" faith in your opinion. I know that there are many faiths but I dunno the differences between them. What faiths do you know 'till now? Can you tell me the biggest differences between them?

I also know that there are people who just believe in God and don't have a religion. I dunno what this people are called.

Hmm, when you really interested in Vampires you should read all the books of this Vampire Chronik, Memnoch is the, I think 4th book of 7. The first one is "Interview mit einem Vampir", then "Fürst der Finsternis", "Königin der Verdammten", "Memnoch der Teufel", "Der Vampir Armand", Merrik (I'm not sure with the title here) and "Blut und Gold". I'm not sure but I think most of them you also can buy in English, so not just in German. Oh, I almost forgot the Autor is "Anne Rice"

No, I didn't know that I can change my "Benutzer Titel" but I wouldn't know anonther one either. ;)

Well, I'm going to go to bed now ;)

Best wishes

Hi Harry :)

Oh no... I wrote such a long text... it's all away :(

@fairy

I'm curious, why do say that we're/I'm great?
I dunno :) It's just great to talk to you two :) I like you and Caitlin and it's a pleasure to talk to you :D

Why did you write "believe" in quotes? Aren't you sure whether there's really a God?
Yes, there are so many poor people... there's so much trouble, illness, wars and so on on the world. But where's God?

No, I don't think it's crazy that you are looking for another religion. :)
What do you mean with mistakes? What's "wrong" with the christian faith? In the Bible stands that everybody is equal. But what about popes, cardinals and so on? They're not equal...

What should comprise "your" faith in your opinion. I dunno... I think what I'm looking for isn't here on earth ;).
I know that there are many faiths but I dunno the differences between them. What faiths do you know 'till now? I know many... some of them good and some of them not as good as I know the others. If you read "Theo's Reise" you learn to know some interesting religions ;) But there are more than them :) There are some nature religions (Indians, Wicca - witch religion) and so on... I'm no prof at this stuff :) therefore I don't know everything :D
Can you tell me the biggest differences between them?
In my opinion are all the religions similiar :) They've often the same origins, the same customs, festivals and so on. There are polytheism and monotheism religions... Well and the religions took on some things... The greek religion has the rebirth and that took on the Christianity :) You see, they're pretty similiar ;)

I also know that there are people who just believe in God and don't have a religion. I dunno what this people are called.
I'm sorry. I don't know either ;) But if I hear the word, I'll tell it you immediately :)

Hmm, when you really interested in Vampires you should read all the books of this Vampire Chronik, Memnoch is the, I think 4th book of 7. The first one is "Interview mit einem Vampir", There's a film with the same name starring with Brad Pitt :) Fürst der Finsternis", "Königin der Verdammten", "Memnoch der Teufel", "Der Vampir Armand", Merrik (I'm not sure with the title here) and "Blut und Gold". I'm not sure but I think most of them you also can buy in English, so not just in German. Thanks for the hint :) I enjoy reading books in English :) It's so much better :) when I'll go to library next week, I'll look for some of these books ;)
Oh, I almost forgot the Autor is "Anne Rice". I know this name.... but I cannot associate anything with it

I'll write more later ;) But now I'm tired....

See you later, Harry. :)

Hi Caitlin :)

Thanks http://www.mainzelahr.de/smile/schuechtern/flirt.gif I just read one or two books... well ;)

I'ven seen that picture before... But I don't know where ;) Well... I've one question: I've read Harry Potter very often and there's sometimes this word "dunno" it has the same meaning as "don't know", hasn't it? Is "dunno" informal language or formal language? :)

"dunno" is definitely informal language :) . On internet, though, it seems to become more and more "formal" language :p

the word "dunno" is slang for "don't know", oldfashioned as I am, I prefer "don't know" :D

Hey you two :)

Hi Harry :)

Oh no... I wrote such a long text... it's all away :(

Oh, I know that "problem", too. That's why I copy my text before I click on the button to post it. But sometimes I also forget it, then I have to write everything again and it never happened that I write the same, the second text is always shorter.

@fairy

I'm curious, why do say that we're/I'm great?

I dunno :) It's just great to talk to you two :) I like you and Caitlin and it's a pleasure to talk to you :D

That's great, thanks! :) It's also a pleasure to talk to you. :)

Why did you write "believe" in quotes? Aren't you sure whether there's really a God?

Yes, there are so many poor people... there's so much trouble, illness, wars and so on on the world. But where's God?

You really have to read that book. Of course, it's just a book but it sounds like it is true. Maybe you'll also find some answers in it. And of course, I would like to know what do you think about the book after you read it.

Zitat:
What do you mean with mistakes? What's "wrong" with the christian faith?
In the Bible stands that everybody is equal. But what about popes, cardinals and so on? They're not equal...

Hmm, that's true and you also could ask: What's with poor and rich? The space between poor and rich will bigger and bigger and the middle class will completely disappear sooner or later, won't it?

Zitat:
What should comprise "your" faith in your opinion.
I dunno... I think what I'm looking for isn't here on earth ;).

Hmm, but don't you have any idea? I know there are some things you will search for and never find them. Like the meaning of life. I dunno the meaning of life and millions of other people either. In case anyone knows it at all.

I think I'll really read that book "Theo's Reise". I'm anyhow interested in that stuff, although I don't really know why. What do think would it be good to have just one Religion? I mean there "is" one God so why do people have different religions? They all do believe in the same God, don't they?

Zitat:
I also know that there are people who just believe in God and don't have a religion. I dunno what this people are called.

I think I'll really read that book "Theo's Reise". I'm anyhow interested in that stuff, although I don't really know why. Yes, do it :) It's really good... well... sometimes you think "oh no - it's boring"... but it's good ;)
What do think would it be good to have just one Religion? I mean there "is" one God so why do people have different religions? They all do believe in the same God, don't they?
Yes, originally there's just one God. Look at the Islam, the Christianity and the Judaism... It's the same God, he's just got other names ;)
But if you want to proselytise other people it's easier if they've a polytheism religion :) Then you can compare the Gods and Goddesses with the other Gods and Goddesses... it's like Zeus and Jupiter :) They're the same... the Romans take on the Gods and gave them other names. You can see it here.
(http://www.mbradtke.de/re002.htm)The first is always Roman and the second is Greek. If there isn't an other expression, they've got the same name.

That's really good, indeed :) If you can imagine this picture and if you realise that you don't want to watch the film, because you'd like to have the pictures in your mind, that's, indeed, very good. Last year was a new film in the cinemas... "The Secret Window (http://www.sonypictures.com/homevideo/secretwindow/index.html)" I've just read the book and haven't been watching the film... And I'm happy about it, because the film is not to be very good. :)

Hmm, I'm not sure but I think you missed the first two questions of mine. What is "polytheism" Never heard, of course I found the translation but I don't know the meaning of the word.

It's interesting to see that people think there're so many Gods, although there "is" just one. They all say, "I believe in God" but in which one? What would they answer when you ask them "Which God do you believe in?" I think they would say. "There's just one God." But what's then with the other Gods? There're so many things that confusing me and this altough I don't believe either the one nor in the other one. Have you ever asked yourself "What's with the other Gods, when there's actually just one?"?

That isn't meant nasty, I hope you believe me this and when I'm going to personal or too far, then just tell me.

Hey you two :)

fairy!!! how can you do that to me!!!!!
:D I'd to look up this word as well. It was some weeks before and I wasn't sure if I wrote it right this time ;) But, indeed, I did :) :D
would you believe it? I had to look this word up Really? Well, indeed it's a really difficult word... my teacher would love it
"haven't written" not "haven't wrote" and write "Klick" with "c" then it's right.

http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/konfus/n015.gif I thought at two many things.... :o at the same time...

Hmm, I'm not sure but I think you missed the first two questions of mine. What is "polytheism" Never heard, of course I found the translation but I don't know the meaning of the word. Polytheism means that you believe in many God and Goddesses... Not just one ;) If you believe in one God or one Goddess you call that monotheism. Islam and Christianity are monotheism religions and Hinduism and stuff like that are polytheism religions :)

It's interesting to see that people think there're so many Gods, although there "is" just one. They all say, "I believe in God" but in which one? What would they answer when you ask them "Which God do you believe in?" I think they would say. "There's just one God."Yes, they would do it, if they've a monotheism faith. But what's then with the other Gods? Well, if their religion is polytheism they could say that they believe in all these Gods and Goddesses :) But, well, they've a got for everything... a God for the harvest, one for the weather, one for love and so on :) I think, they might be priests for different Gods and Goddesses... They serve just them and no other God... oh no, I'm getting confused... )
Did you watch Troy? There's a priest which serves one God... she gave her life and all for him... well and then there is a, hum, "King-God" :D He's the one who has the most power... I think, if they don't want something like love and so on, they believe in the "King-God"... but I'm not sure ;)

There're so many things that confusing me and this although I don't believe either the one nor in the other one. Have you ever asked yourself "What's with the other Gods, when there's actually just one?"?
Yes, I did. Well, that's the difference between mono- and polytheism :) If they have a lot of Gods and Godesses, they've one for everything... If they'll have a good harvest, they make sacrifices to this God. I hope I made it a little bit clearer for you ;) Well, it is confusing :)

That isn't meant nasty, I hope you believe me this and when I'm going to personal or too far, then just tell me.

I know and it's ok :) I'll tell you as much as I can and as much as I know :)

sorry to butt in, dear Harry, but what makes you so sure that there is just one God? :) and ... is he male or is she female? ;)

Harry
08.05.2005, 17:41
Hey Caitlin,

I myself think there's no God, that's also why I don't believe in God but I'm interested in things that other people think, no matter what it is. When anyone can prove me that there is a God or a lot of Gods then I will believe, too. I also would like to see/meet him/her or them that, of course, would be the biggest proof at all. Nothing shows me that ther's also just one God just as nothing shows me that there's one. Maybe that's why I'm interested in this stuff sometimes, maybe I'm looking for a proof. maybe that's the meaning of life, looking for something maybe you'll never find.

What's whit you? Do you believe in God?

Caitlin
08.05.2005, 18:50
what about me? No, I don't believe in God but was raised to believe. Like fairy I was baptised and then went through confirmation but as soon as I was old enough to think clearly ;) I decided that I definitely didn't like the idea of any "him" God ... on the other hand, I didn't much care for a "her" goddess, either :D

and if you'd ask me about the "meaning of life" I'd answer: the meaning of life is life itself

:)

Hello :)

You said you're looking for a new religion, what's with you, do you think there's just one God or do you think there're a lot of them?
That's exactly one point I'm looking for ;) I don't know :) Maybe there are a lot or just one, I do not know :)

Sorry, but I have to ask you once again because either you have forgotten my questions again or I haven't got your answer  :

What do think would it be good to have just one Religion?
I mean there "is" one God so why do people have different religions?

Sorry, I forgot it ;) Well, the 1st thing is, what Caitlin said ( sorry to butt in, dear Harry, but what makes you so sure that there is just one God? :) and ... is he male or is she female? ;) ) and the 2nd thing is: I don't know if it's good to have just one religion... I'm trying to find it out... I mean it's maybe better to have just one, because then there's no risk to mix them up but on the other hand it's maybe better if you've two religions, because then you can find something that you miss in the 1st religion in the 2nd one :) I'm grown up, well, "religion-bilingual" :) There are no really deep differents between the two "religions" because they're both Christianity... Catholic (my daddy) and Protestan (Evangelic) (my mummy :)) :)

Thanks for sunny wishes, now it's sunny. :) About an hour ago it was still raining. Hope it's sunny where you live, too.
Here in Soltau it's raining an sometimes sunny... I thought April is all over  :D

and if you'd ask me about the "meaning of life" I'd answer: the meaning of life is life itself
That's really good indeed :)

It's like talking about the sense of life. :) (or is it the same?)
I've found one of Nelly: and if you'd ask me about the "meaning of life" I'd answer: the meaning of life is life itself
Well, it's just the attitude, isn't it? Somebody thinks the sense of his life is being a monk and somebody else thinks it's his sense of life to be a multimillionaire and some other people think like Nelly and for some other people the sense of life or meaning of life is how Caitlin said it :)

Sometimes I think Gods and Goddesses are just made for people to cling to something... well, they do their work ;)

Another theme: You know, I'll go to Oxford ;) And, while I'm being there, Harry Potter 6 is going to be published. Do you're going to buy it? Or does this not interest you at all? Yes, I think so two, but I wasn't sure, therefore I wrote sense of life...:) But I mean the same :)

No, I'm not interested in Harry Potter, so I won't buy it either. Have you read all books about him?
Yes, in English and German :) Have you never read any Harry Potter book? Well, they make a song and dance about it, but it's a fantastic book :)
In the meantime I'm going to read "The boy who lost his face" by Louis Sachar. He also wrote "There's a boy in the girls bathroom" and I like the book. :) It's also written in easy English. :D

I think you made a small mistake :) when you quoted "Nelly":

I used to think that life has got a plan for me, until I realised that life had to be planned by me

Yes, I think so two, but I wasn't sure, therefore I wrote sense of life...:) But I mean the same :)

You have made a little mistake. I hope you don't mind that I tell you. It's not "I think so two", but "I think so too".

Yes, in English and German :) Have you never read any Harry Potter book? Well, they make a song and dance about it, but it's a fantastic book :)

That's right, I have never read a book about Harry Potter.
Hmm, how do I have to understand that: "Well, they make ..." What's the answer for? The sentence doesn't really make sense to me.

I've never read one book of him, but I guess I've heard of him http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/konfus/c010.gif

Do you know "Holes" it's written by him, too. Some pupils are even reading it at school, maybe you you did it too.

Oh yes, of course. It's just 2-5 minutes away ;) At the 1st time their are really funny bunny but after a while you are tired of it ;) And you? Have you ever been in such kind of theme park? :)

"their are"? Shouldn't it be "there it is"?

Nope, I wasn't. About 13 years ago, when I was in school we wanted to do a class outing and going to the Heidepark but at the end we haven't, because there was no parent who had time to go along with us. And now, I don't really like carousels and something like that anymore. It's almost too much for me to see it on TV or when other drive (?) on carousels, then I get such a weird feeling in the stomach. :D

Hello together :)

This is the 100st (I'm not sure if the "st" is correct  ) post (or better said response) in this thread http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/froehlich/a040.gif

You've to read one! :)

Hmm, how do I have to understand that: "Well, they make ..." What's the answer for? The sentence doesn't really make sense to me.
There's a lot of ballyhoo about it... Of course, it's a fantastic book... but the "Pottermania"... If you ask me, it's a little bit exaggerated... ;)

Do you know "Holes" it's written by him, too. Some pupils are even reading it at school, maybe you you did it too.
No, I've never heard about it... At school we've just read "Love me blindely", "Death End for Murder" and another book. Therefore I read a lot of English books at home. :)

"their are"? Shouldn't it be "there it is"? Oh that's one of my slips' of pen... I don't know why I wrote "bunny" http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/konfus/c010.gif but actually I wanted to say that they are really funny at the first time, but after a while you're tired of it ;)

Hey fairy,

It seems that we're alone for some days.

I wonder whether you have also noticed that there are some topics away in the section "Klatsch und Tratsch"?

And I wonder where they are? Is anybody able to answer this?

This is the 100st (I'm not sure if the "st" is correct  ) post (or better said
response) in this thread http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/froehlich/a040.gif
It is "100th". I looked up in my dictionary.

I'd never mind ;) I hate my slips of the pen... http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/konfus/a090.gif ;)

Where did you get this expression "slip of the pen" from? I just ask because I haven't found a "good" translation" for it yet and I would like to know what really it means. :D

What's the best book about Harry Potter in your opinion?

There's a lot of ballyhoo about it... Of course, it's a fantastic book... but the "Pottermania"... If you ask me, it's a little bit exaggerated... ;)

Oh, okay, now I understand it. Well it is like it is with other things, too. Look, I just read today, oh no, yesterday ;), there are people who are waiting for the premiere of Star Wars Episode III for about 500 hours and that one is the third in the row. You can read it here: http://focus.msn.de/hps/fol/newsausgabe/newsausgabe.htm?id=14462

I dunno, but I don't think I would ever do that.

No, I've never heard about it... At school we've just read "Love me blindely", "Death End for Murder" and another book. Therefore I read a lot of English books at home. :)

Here you can read something about "Holes"

He's a good autor in my opinion and the books are really good above all for people who learn English because they are easy written, so you don't have to look up for every second word. ;) For you they could to be too easy, though. ;)

Do you borrow all of your books in the library or do you buy some, too?

This feeling in you stomach is the "thrill" :) I like it :) But after a while it's too much and I need a breather :)

No, no, it's more that I feel ill just by look on it. ;)

I couldn't borrow books, because it took me too long to read a book. Like "Memnoch der Teufel" it took me about 2 months because either I didn't have time or just didn't have pleasure to read. So, it's better for me to buy them then I read when I want to. ;)

I'm quite quick in reading books... Last week we had a long weekend (Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday...) I read 3 or 4 books... I don't now... at the moment I'm really a bookworm

Which movie did you watch?
We watched "Dude, Where's my car (http://www.foxhome.com/dude/)?" (We watched it in German because I've recorded the film... in German it's "Ey Mann, wo is' mein Auto?") (here's a link (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0242423/)). My sister likes it. It's a film about two boys who forgott what they did last night... Each of one has a girlfriend (who are sisters) and their centanary is at the next day. Well, they've of course presents... but the gifts are in the car - and the car is away... On the search of the car they find out what happened last night... it's a comedy :)

Now I've to go... I'm going to have a shower because I'm so tired...

3 or 4 books? I can't imagine that. How many pages have had the books? Well, althrough the number of pages doesn't really mean anything because it's also a difference in which type size it is printed. For example the books from the Vampire Chronic are written in a type size of about Arial 9 and "Dogs don't tell Jokes" (it's the book that I'm reading at present) is written in about Arial 12. So with a bigger type size you will read more pages in the same time. ;)

I just thought of it, I forgot to list a book from the Vampire Chronicle "Nachtmahr" That's the book before "Memnoch der Teufel".

Don't you mean "anniversary" instead of "centanary"? And bye the way I haven't found the word either. I just found "centenary" but I don't think that you really mean that word, do you?

Each of one?? I'm quite sure that it should be called "Each of them", shouldn't it?

I watched the trailer and it seemed to funny. :D Do you watch a lot of movies in English? I try to watch every movie in English some with and some without (English)subtitles. How about you, with or without subtitles?

Hi Harry :)

3 or 4 books? I can't imagine that. How many pages have had the books?
The 1st one... nearly 400 ... the 2nd one... mh... wait a minute... 250 and the 3rd and 4th one 200 pages together (I guess... I'm not sure with the last two ones ;))
Or, wait, it migh be that I've changed something... I'm not sure if one of them was Harry Potter, because then it's not 250 but nearly 400 :) In English, of course ;)
So with a bigger type size you will read more pages in the same time. ;)
Yes, that's right :) But in my experience the English books have a very small size of letters :)

I just thought of it, I forgot to list a book from the Vampire Chronicle "Nachtmahr" That's the book before "Memnoch der Teufel". :)

Don't you mean "anniversary" instead of "centanary"? And bye the way I haven't found the word either. I just found "centenary" but I don't think that you really mean that word, do you?
I wasn't sure which I should take... ;) I mean "Jahrestag" and "centanary" has a tiping error, of course... I disliked "anniversary" because it's quite similiar with the French word "l'anniversaire" and that means "birthday" ;)

Each of one?? I'm quite sure that it should be called "Each of them", shouldn't it? Yes, of course... slip of my pen... :D Je déteste ça!

I watched the trailer and it seemed to funny. :D Indeed, it's funny :D

:D I know :) But I cannot sleep... I don't know why... ;)

That's really a lot what you was reading during that few days. I finished "Dog's don't tell jokes" yesterday. It wasn't as good as the other books which I read by Louis Scharr (maybe it's spelled wrong)

Well but "centenary" means "Hunderster Jahrestag", doesn't it?

Hi Harry :)

I finished "Dog's don't tell jokes" yesterday. It wasn't as good as the other books which I read by Louis Scharr (maybe it's spelled wrong) I've read two other books yesterday... I thought they're scary or maybe horrible... but nothing of this... they were booooooooring ;)

Well but "centenary" means "Hunderster Jahrestag", doesn't it?
I don't know ;) Look here
http://dict.leo.org/?lp=ende&lang=de&searchLoc=0&cmpType=relaxed&relink=on&sectHdr=on&spellToler=std&search=jahrestag
Oh yes... look here to see what it also means: http://dict.leo.org/se?lp=ende&p=/Mn4k.&search=centenary

What are you talking about? It's French ;) Je = I - déteste comes from the verb "désteter" (hate) and means "hate" - "ça" means "this/that" -> I hate this :D

No "Holes" in the labrary? Hmm, who knows, hope you will enjoy the other book you have found. ;)
I hope so as well :) I'll read it this evening :)

I would do the same as I do now, too. :D
:D And what are you doing now? :) How do you find to the "BB"? Through google? ;)

That's very confusing. When someone talks to you about a couple, how do you that it isn't their "hundertster Jahrestag"? I mean nothing is impossible because as far as I know the oldest person was 124 years old.

:D And what are you doing now? :) How do you find to the "BB"? Through google? ;)

Well, actually I meant it because of looking up words. I'm using my Collins Dictionary. I didn't find the "BB" by Google. ;) It was by chance when I was on the main page (forgot the name of the page)

Hi fairy, hi Harry :)

Cambridge dictionary:
centenary
noun [C] (US USUALLY AND AUSTRALIAN ENGLISH ALSO centennial)
(the day or year that is) 100 years after an important event; the 100th annniversary
centenary celebrations
Next year is the centenary of her death.

Webster dictionary:
1. \Cen"te*na*ry\, a. [L. centenarius, fr. centum a
hundred.]
1. Relating to, or consisting of, a hundred.
2. Occurring once in every hundred years; centennial.
``Centenary solemnities.'' --Fuller.
2. \Cen"te*na*ry\, n.; pl. {Centenaries}.
1. The aggregate of a hundred single things; specifically, a
century. ``Every centenary of years.'' --Hakewill.
2. A commemoration or celebration of an event which occurred
a hundred years before.

as “centenary” comes from the Latin word “centenarius” = “hundred” it has to be something with „hundred“

therefore, dear fairy, in your sentence the word "anniversary" would have been the right one to use :)

I wasn't sure which I should take... ;)I mean "Jahrestag" and "centanary" has a tiping error, of course... I disliked "anniversary" because it's quite similiar with the French word "l'anniversaire" and that means "birthday" ;)

the pronounciation is quite different, though :D

Do you know Kingdom of Heaven? I saw it yesterday. It's a really interesting film :)
Well, I wrote you that I was going to see a DvD - it was "Fight Club" - it's a quite intersting story and it's interesting as well how someone feels who is two persons in only one person ;)
I know, this film is not for people who are younger than 18 but I don't understand this (in this case). This movie is not really brutal or bestial - I've seen some films which are more bestial and scary than this one and which are till 16.

I'm not sure whether I have seen "Fight Club" once. Do you like martial art movies?

I think, I found a little mistake: "... are more bestial and scary than this one and which are till 16. "

You, of course, mean from 16 up, don't you? I mean, it would be weird when someone tells you: "You are 17, so you are too old to watch this movie." :D

Best wishes and have still a nice day. :)

Harry

PS: How have you been able to post at this time? Do you have vacation?

Hi Harry :)

I've only got it in German... Do you know what? I've found some English books in a book shop in my town! :) I've never thought that they've some!

I'm not sure whether I have seen "Fight Club" once. Do you like martial art movies? Nope. In my opinion Fight Club ist no martial (I suppose that you mean with "martial"-"kriegerisch", don't you?) film. It's an psychological film. ;)

I think, I found a little mistake: "... are more bestial and scary than this one and which are till 16. "

You, of course, mean from 16 up, don't you? I mean, it would be weird when someone tells you: "You are 17, so you are too old to watch this movie." :D

Oh yes, of course, you're right :):D

Yepp. I've "Kirchentagsferien" :) Really practical :)

Hey fairy,

I don't know how big the book shop is where you found some English books but I think each major book shop does have some of them.

No, I mean "Kampfsport" with "martial art".

I'm surprised I thought "Fight Club" would be a movie about a Karate fighter or something like that.

I have never heard about "Kirchentagsferien". I just know "Pfingstferien". Is it the same maybe?

Best wishes

Hi Harry :)

I don't know how big the book shop is where you found some English books but I think each major book shop does have some of them.
The book shop isn't pretty large and therefore it's just a shelf (I mean "Regalbrett" ;)) with English books :)

No, I mean "Kampfsport" with "martial art".
[quote] Oh, I see. :)
[quote]
I'm surprised I thought "Fight Club" would be a movie about a Karate fighter or something like that.
Oh no... Well, there's a guy, Tyler Durden/ Jack (they are the same person but that turns out at the end ;)), and he founds "Fight Club"... Well, Jack thinks that Tyler founds it but of course he is Tyler and therefore he founds "Fight Club". Tyler is doing a lot of crazy things, of course Jack does this things... It's a little bit confusing...
The sense of Fight Club is to knock each other around... crazy, isn't it?
Well, indeed, it's no really great or fantastic film as a film (there are much more films who are better ;)) but it's really interesting how it is for a person who is two persons in only one single person and realises it :)
I have never heard about "Kirchentagsferien". I just know "Pfingstferien". Is it the same maybe? Yes and no :) I had holidays on Whit Monday and now because of the "Kirchentag" in Hannover ;) I know it's complicated to explain therefore I looked for a link: http://www.weser-ems-bus.de/Kirchentagsferien_beachten.html

P.p.S.: I know, the link is very very bad... But I couln't found a better one :(

Love,

P.s.: Now I'll watch Charmed :)

Good morning fairy, :)

The book shop isn't pretty large and therefore it's just a shelf (I mean "Regalbrett" ;)) with English books :)

Hmm, when it would be a "Regal" than it would called "shelves", wouldn't it? I'm not sure.

This movie "Fight Club" seems really to be confusing. :D

P.p.S.: I know, the link is very very bad... But I couln't found a better one :(

That's not meant nasty: You couldn't find a better link? I can't believe because I thought you would like to google. ;)

Try this link: http://www.google.de/search?hl=de&q=Kirchentag&meta=

Do you like Charmed? I watched it earlier when Shannen Doherty (Prue) still was acting in it. I dunno but anyhow it isn't the same without her anymore. That's why I stopped watching it.

Hmm, well, that's for now.

Have a very nice day. :)

Best wishes

hey fairy,

That's confusing again, why does "shelf" mean "Regal" and "Regalbrett"? In my opinion it isn't the same, is it?
Because a "Regalbrett" is only a part of a "Regal". Hmm, maybe there's another word for "Regalbrett" when it is only a part of a "Regal". Maybe Catilin does have an answer/idea when she will be there again.

I just watch Charmed sometimes... I haven't got the time ;) But Prue was just in the team form the 1st till the 3rd season and then came Paige, doesn't she?

it's like this:

one shelf of books/one bookshelf = (Bücher-)Regalbrett
(many) shelves of books/(many) bookshelves = Bücherregal

Cambridge dictionary has the following examplary sentence:
"One wall had shelves from floor to ceiling, crammed with books."
http://dictionary.cambridge.org/define.asp?key=72666&dict=CALD

so, if you want to say "Regalbrett" you have to say "one bookshelf/one shelf of books"

the word for "Bücherregal" is bookcase (this can be a Bücherregal or a Bücherschrank)

now I have to do some http://www.mainzelahr.de/smile/haushalt/waesche.gif http://www.mainzelahr.de/smile/haushalt/buegeln.gif http://www.mainzelahr.de/smile/haushalt/einkaufen.gif

Hey fairy,

Do you know "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams?

The movie to the book shall be in the movie theatre in summer this year. If I remember right in July.

Best wishes and have still a nice day.

Harry

I have to correct myself ;)

I just found that:

Per Anhalter durch die Galaxis
Ab 9. Juni 2005 im Kino

http://www.rtv.de/images/blind.gif
Waaas, Sie haben Douglas Adams' "Per Anhalter durch die Galaxis" nicht gelesen? Hinsetzen, nachholen!

But then, it's nice that you were born in the South of Germany http://www.mainzelahr.de/smile/froehlich/smilewinkgrin.gif as I was born in Switzerland, we're something like neighbours http://www.mainzelahr.de/smile/liebe/bussi.gif

Hey you two,

@fairy

Maybe you'll have time on vacation. I'm not sure but I think you do have summer-vacation in July, don't you?

Here where I do live it is cloudy but I don't think that it will rain.

@you two

have a nice day

Hi Harry :)

@fairy

Maybe you'll have time on vacation. I'm not sure but I think you do have summer-vacation in July, don't you? Yep, I've. :) That's a good idea... but in July I'm going to be in England .... Well, and at the 9th of July I'm not going to have holidays :(

Will you have all your vacation in England?

Why don't you have vacation on July 9th?
Because my vacation starts at 14th of July... ;)

Will you have all your vacation in England? Nope, just for 3 weeks :)

Hey fairy,

Hmm, are you the only one who's vacation starts on July 14th? :S I'm a little bit condused.

Do you already know from when to when you will be in England, now? I remember that you said a while ago that there has changed something.

Hi Harry :)

Hmm, are you the only one who's vacation starts on July 14th? :S I'm a little bit condused.
Nope... there are some more people in Thuringia, Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Bremen who's vacations start at this date :)

Do you already know from when to when you will be in England, now? I remember that you said a while ago that there has changed something.

From the 17th or 18th of July till 7th of August :)

Hey fairy,

It's me again.

So your vacation official starts on July 14th. Then this sentence "Well, and at the 9th of July I'm not going to have holidays" anyhow makes me even more confuse. Because it sounds to me like all the others are going to have vaction on July 9th except of you, your Land of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Am I too old to understand this? ;)

I've just meant that I cannot watch "Per Anhalter durch die Galaxie" at the 9th of July, because it starts there, doesn't it, because my holidays starts at the 14th of July :) And I do not think that I'll have time before this date :)

Hey fairy,

Ah, now, I really know what you mean and makes sense to me, too.

It wouldn't make any difference when you would have vacation on July 9th, because the movie is already in the movie theater since last Thursday June 9th. ;) You mixed up the months.

Hi fairy, :)

well I didn't know that it was the summer hit last year. Quite honestly I can't even remember when I was listening to radio the last time. It has to be a long time ago. ;)

I can't really remember but I think I saw something like that on TV few months ago. There were much more people like the guy in the vid who had forgotten to turn off their cam and then this crazy stuff spread on the Internet around the world.

But, yes, I still want to move to Canada, though, it will take some years before I can do that because I still need 4 years of work experience, in a job that definite standards fulfil and I also have to improve my English. ;) But I dunno what will happen during that time either so it also can happen that I have to change my plan to emigrate to Canada. Nobody really knows what the future is holding for them.

nonsense??
Shouldn't it better something like that: but that doesn't matter/ but that doesn't make any difference?? Because, I think "Unsinn", "dummes Zeug", "Quatch" and so on doesn't really fit.

You'll laugh because when I was about 12 I was dreaming of emigrate to Australia but their conditions are/were unattainable for a normal mortal. ;)

Hmm, don't get mad at me but I can't really tell you why I have choosed Canada because I think some of the reasons aren't that good and the reasons which are good I don't know whether they still will exist in a few years such as that their economic upswing, the solidarity between people. You know most of I only read and I don't know whether that's true. That's why I also want to go to Canada for a "short" time, 1 year, or so to see like it really is there. Maybe I will find a canadian-company that I can work for here in Germany and which is make possible to work in Canada, too. I think that really would be great. But with my luck that never will happen. I would be lucky to find a "good" job at all.

England as England's fantastic but my organization... No, I'd never travel anytime again with "ef" because there were too much stupid things... like my Pakistani hostfamily who doesn't speak English well - it was awful!
And Portugal - it's a fantastic country - very sunny and the Portugese are crazy people :) - and very, very nice! I mean, would you ever tile your house or a church inside? And I was at the end of the world

Brighton as Brighton was so wonderful - you can see so much things. And near Brighton's a village where's the house of the jungel book author. But the English youth is a "little bit" xenophobic in Brighton...

They were nice, of course, but I went to England to learn more about the British culture and not to learn something about the Pakistani's.

Well, at first, I wanted to go to the USA because I think if you wanna talk about it you should've been there. First I thought it would be a year without school but now it sounds like a student exchange to me. Because I think you're in high school grade 10 and you said that you don't know whether they will take you or not.

Maybe you'll be able to tell/to explain me. It would be very nice of you.

@ Caitlin: http://www.cosgan.de/images/smilie/liebe/f010.gif http://www.cosgan.de/images/smilie/liebe/h020.gif
@ Harry: It's a high school year (a year with school - you live in a family and are part of this family). I wouldn't be able to take a year without school if I want to make my A-levels because I'd lose one year and I'd have to catch up on everything. This would be too much. It's usual to make a high school year and so I decided to make one as well.

12.10.2005, 18:15
Hey Caitlin,

No, it's not as complicated as the last one, at least 'till now. ;) I "just" have to sort mountains of letters/deeds, to register them and as a result of that writing other documents. It's not bad, at least it isn't boring. ;)

Have you ever seen about 50 files? That's about the number of files which I have "filled" with the letters/deeds oh, and of course they had to punch holes in. I have no idea how many letters/deeds I have punched holes in but it was enough. It's not really exciting but yes, it's good to work again.

May I ask: What do you translate?

Have a good time wherever you're going to!

see you next week

best wishes

Hey you two :)

Now I'm back again ;) I've got holidays and therefore I've got time to write- fortunately. At the moment I'm reading "Memnoch the devil"(unfortunately just in German because I couldn't find it in English. Althoug I'd prefer to read it in English I'm happy that I've found it in German http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/froehlich/a040.gif I don't remember that I've ever read a book as slowly as this one. But I do like it although it's sometimes a little bit soul-destroying... http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/verschiedene/a108.gif
It's a wonderful feeling to relax and enjoy and just do what I want to do http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/verschiedene/g015.gif

Well, that's all for now :)

See you later and take care,

Hi Harry :)

I used to do that kind of work so I guess I know what you're talking about ;)

May I ask: What do you translate?

it's not exactly what I would have chosen if I had been given a choice :D it's business-related and rather dreary :p AND it's a whole book so I'll be kept busy for a while yet ~~~ ~~~~~

hey Caitlin, hey fairy,

@ Caitlin lots of success and luck by doing the translation. It's not easy to translate a book. How many pages does it have and do you have to translate from German to English or the other way around?

@fairy What do you mean by "soul-destroying"?
Hmm, you couldn't find an english version?? That's strange, you could have ordered both so the German and the English Book on Amazon.de

Hi Harry http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/froehlich/a015.gif

"soul-destroying" (I know, I could write the German translation but this thread's English and I think so we should write it in English and I looked it up for you http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/froehlich/f040.gif in an English dicitionary http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/froehlich/d055.gif )

Here it is:

soul-destroying adj. (of a job or task) very dull and boring, because it has to be repeated many times or because there will never be any improvement

source: http://www.cornelsen.de/WebObjects/COLLehrer/zielgruppen/oald/oald_sites/frame_dictionary.html

Well, you see, you read it once and then you've to think about it because it's a little bit philosophical and then you might have to read it once more because you might want to have a second look :) Well, and that's a little bit soul-destroying although it's a really good book.

Yep, amazon.de is a very good idea - but there's a rub in it. I haven't got enough money at the moment to buy books - so I've to go to the library and have to look there.

I wish you two a wunderful weekend and Caitlin, I wish you lot of fun by translating ;)

thank you, dear Harry :)

The book has 250 pages but, as there are lots or equations and tables in it, the text to translate should 'only' be about 200 pages ;) Unfortunately I have to translate from German into English :o it would be easier the other way round :D

I wish you two a wunderful weekend and Caitlin, I wish you lot of fun by translating ;)

Good afternoon, you two =)

Or how many newbies did we get?
Well, the last time I was a bit stressed out but at the moment everything's nearly fine and I thougt: Why not popping in and having a look what you're doing?
Just because I've time now, I'll tell you, what happened to me the last month we haven't seen each other. It didn't worked with my exchange year - well, I definitely tried absolutely everything - but nothing worked out. I tried it with YFU - the only organisation I was allowed to try by my Mum. She didn't want to give my child custody to any commercial org therefore I tried it with YFU. You know, they only take about 5 students who want to go to Canada - and I wanted - I would also have gone to every other country - except of Poland or something like that ;) In the end my parents said, it would be the best if I'd go to Canada. Well, I told you ages ago, didn't I?
Canada is beautiful and I would have been so pleased if I had been able to go to.
Of course I didn't give up and tried to go abroad privately. Then it was just a matter of my age. I'm just 16 years old - it's a bit too young since everyone I asked or made other people asked them ;) told me, they would have taken me for one year - but - I'm too you. The stupid custody again. It was all coming to nothing... Well, when I'm 18 I can do what I want and don't have to take care whether it fits with my age or not.

But you know me - I'm always optimistic, am I not, thus I decided to change the school. Now I'm at a commercial high school. And it's FANTASTIC :) I've subjects such as business studies, economics, computing, Spanish again, French in a very little course - just 3 students and one teacher - wonderful!, Maths, some other economy subjects, politics, ethics, PE, German, physics and - needless to say - English =)

I do love it there - the lessons are much more pleasant than they were at the general educating grammar school.

So, that's it. How did you do? Is everything all right?

Lots of love,
fairy

Caitlin
02.10.2006, 11:20
Hi lovely fairy :D

how nice to see you again!!!

I'm sorry to hear that your exchange year didn't work out just because you are too young ;) You will have to wait another two years then, won't you?

But it's nice to know that you like your new school and that everything seems to be alright :)

You haven't missed much :p This forum is more or less gently dozing the days away ~~~ ~~~~~ :D:D:D

Also sending you lots of love ;)

Good morning, my dearest Caitlin :)

Well, the weather isn't as nice as it should be, but I do love this day nevertheless. It's the first weekend since March, I've two days off. What a lovely luxury - I'm enjoying it.
What happened to me, the last few weeks or better said months? I made my way, of course. I had an awkward English teacher, she's from the US and we had kind of a row, but now is everything absolutely fine. My new English teacher's quite nice and she speaks British English, fortunately.
On Friday I passed my driving licence - it was pretty easy. :)
Do you know, I'm always wondering how the forum's growing and still keeps growing.
Well, I've got to go now since I've got lots of things to do... like homeworks, reading books and such things... things no one actually enjoys to do but they have to be done, unfortunately.

I'd be pleased to hear from you soon and lots of love,
Cosima

Caitlin
04.06.2007, 16:20
Good evening, dearest fairy Cosima :) and congratulations to your driving license!!! I'm glad to hear that you got a nice English teacher now and a British one as well. British English is so much more pleasant to the ear than American English ;) isn't it?

Unfortunately I don't have much time for this or any other forum anymore. If I'm not spending my time on the road (I live in 'two places' now and keep hopping from one to the other and back :D ) I'm being kept busy writing articles and doing translations. I'm not complaining, though, at least I never feel bored ;)

Lots of love to you, tooooooo :)

Caitlin
